I have never liked how I've decorated our mantel for Christmas. I kept thinking I needed to spend some serious cash on some new stockings. I searched, and searched, and searched. I even came very close to splurging on some personalized velvet stockings this year. Oh, I am so happy I didn't.
Here's to reason #34, 409 for loving blogs. I love The Nester. After reading The Nester's tutorial, and being inspired to create an affordable garland, I started shopping after Christmas last year.
Here's what I bought on sale:
3 9-foot green garland from Target ($.99 for 9 feet)
5 dried hydrangeas from Pottery Barn (can't remember exact price but under $15)
2 rolls wired green silk ribbon (buy one get one free at Michael's)
Here's what I had:
2 tree topiaries from Home Goods
1 string white lights
2 3-M removable white hooks
1 dried floral wreath that I took apart
2 green tassels
1 set of Believe blocks from Wegman's
numerous pine cones I took/found/stole from the park
I followed the Nester's instructions exactly. I am so happy with the results. The entire project took about 1 hour to assemble. It was quick and easy and really fun to do. It makes me happy every time I enter this room, which is often.
Linking up at A Soft Place to Land and The Inspired Room. Check out the holiday fun!

It is gorgeous!! Good job.
LOVELY and inspiring me for next year since I haven't motivated to do anything this year :-)
That looks beautiful! Very smart of you to get the items after Christmas last year so you'd be ready for this year.
Looks great Maureen! I think Nester has helped many a mantle!
Wow, what a stunning mantel. You did it all so beautifully!
OK I just leaned on my keyboard and I believe my previous comment said something like, "gwerihweqkreyryewqryeqwryqeoryeqor." What I really meant to say was, I just realized this week that we bought a mantel so even though the fireplace is faux the mantel is real...and I'm looking forward to getting down there to have at it tomorrow! Now let's hope it looks half as good as yours...
Simple and elegant. Love it.
It turned out so lovely!!! Merry Christmas!
