too young for a crush

Brendan on Picture Day - he wanted to wear his "string" aka tie.
Brendan came home from preschool yesterday, and he announced he played with Alex on the playground.  I was glad to hear it because he came home one day and told me that he plays by himself outside.  That just breaks my heart.  The whole point of this preschool experience is the interaction with kids his own age.  Kids he's not related to or kids not born to my friends.

As a result of what he mentioned before, I was happy, but because of his personality, I didn't make a big deal.  I learned this technique from my mom - don't overreact when your kids share - just let them know that you're ears are open. I did just that, and boy, was that a mistake!

I responded casually, "Really? That's great.  What did you play?"

He readily answered, "We play boy games, and Genevieve and Hallie, played girl games.  But Genevieve whispered in Hallie's ear.  And I said, 'I heard that.'"

Obviously, I am engaged because Genevieve's name has come up a few times in the last few weeks, and I ask, "Well, what did Genevieve say?"

Brendan tells me, "I don't know.  I couldn't hear it, but I just said that. Then we just stared at each other because that's what we sometimes do.  We just look at each other.  A lot."

.....i am speechless....

Maureen,

He is not the one you have to worry about. It's the girls. They will be chasing him down, passing him letters, calling the house. Just wait!

Your Friend,
Deborah

That is absolutely adorable. At just that age, my oldest had a special little friend. They'd hold hands all day at preschool and when I asked him about school, that's all he'd have to say - "I just held Amanda's hand 'cause I love her so much". I just love the innocence.

And can I just tell you I'm loving reading the real names of your family?? :)
